The head cold isn’t exactly helping the sleep but the lack of exercise and a hefty exposure to air conditioning may also be factors. Suppose I could go to the gym, but like salad eating, it is often seems to be the preserve of larger people! There must be a correlation.
As morning trivia was at 9:15am, we opted to head there before breakfast. The lack of stodge or brain food made no difference – we still didn’t win – but we weren’t far behind the winners.
Breakfast followed by a decent coffee and then early afternoon, we went to a lecture by Hypnotist, David Knight. His show last night went down well apparently and his lecture was very interesting and informative and was to a fairly full house in the Vista.
A very late lunch was a grilled pork steak sandwich from the afternoon tea section. (We’ll return to the Horizon Court post breakfast options, when we hit the runs of sea days after Valletta, when heading back through the Suez Canal.)
For the afternoon trivia, we only managed 12/20. Too many astronomy questions.
At 6:15, we headed back to the Vista lounge for David’s Knight’s hypnotism show. I was pushed into volunteering, but even though I wasn’t fighting it, I didn’t go under – nor did a few others, so returned to my seat to watch the fun.
Very interesting to watch the reactions of the volunteers. The ‘star’ was Peter, who was well under. He was told to imagine writing his name on a piece of paper, then locking it in a safe, at which point he wouldn’t then have a name. David Knight then told him his name was Julie – which was fun, when he called him Peter or ‘Sir’. He then pretended to steal his left shoe. After that, whilst under, he removed his (bright red!) shoe and gave it back to him, but it was now his cell-phone and would keep ringing and he would get mad, as it was costing him a fortune in overseas calls and this would continue for three minutes after the show finished… It did - and he wasn’t too happy about it when we left the lounge!
One criticism of the show however. It was on the stage at floor level, when they should have raised the stage as it wasn’t too easy to see. An 8/10 though and it does rather depend on who takes part as at least one guy didn’t appear to be under at all!
Dinner included my all-time favourite entrée of French onion soup. Almost a meal in itself.
Out on deck, the Beatles Celebration band gave another two popular concerts – 7:45pm and 9:45pm. At the later show, we managed to catch up with lead dancer Steph’s father this time, on board for his first cruise. Luckily, he managed to catch the matinee Production Show – “British Invasion”. Yes, she really is that slim! The production team don’t do many shows when there are so many consecutive port days, but they’ll be doing a few later.
A pleasant night on deck, but trying to talk/shout above the music was getting hard on the throat, so after a couple of Rock ’n Roll dances, we headed back to the cabin.
Bed at a respectable 23:15, but a jelly from our secret hoard in the fridge was probably good for my throat.
Naples again tomorrow, with nothing really planned. So far, not one of our favourite cities, even though we enjoyed Jo’s tour of the Amalfi Coast last time.
