Day 29 - Yes, another sea day...

Paula skipped off to the hair salon, for a freshen up on the colour front and I headed to the theatre for a lecture by Chief Engineer elect (he takes over in a couple of days), Thomas Stirling.  Now Thomas was our CE in 2011 when as some of you will know, we did a behind the scenes ship’s tour and the presentation from the engineer’s office by Thomas was a highlight.  Now he has expanded it to a full lecture and he is one of the best speakers we have had.  Very witty and entertaining as well as explaining in layman’s language how they convert diesel fuel to power all the on board systems.  Also of interest is the total waste disposal system and the desalination of the sea water so that we can drink it.

The theatre was full and rightly so.  By the time I returned to the cabin, Paula was back so as we had skipped the quiz, the logical next stop was coffee and just a couple of small rolls to tide us over.   That means no lunch.

We headed to the Vista lounge to watch the end of a game show “Battle Of The Sexes” which seemed to be well supported and then we settled in for the passenger talent show.

This is not a contest but generally the calibre was very high, with three pianist/singers (all good), a solo pianist – also good, a young tap dancer (also good) and three solo singers, two with Sarah playing piano and one with her own recorded music.  In between this lot, we had a guy telling jokes (which apparently caused some offence to one lady passenger, as I witnessed her complaining to Marcus later that night!); and an act (if you can call it that) going on for nearly 15 minutes.  This same old guy recites 15 minutes worth of Banjo Patterson’s “The Man From Snowy River” on every cruise talent show we have ever seen – so I make a quick exit and return later…

We nearly won the quiz with 14/20, but we were pipped by a team with 15/20.   The early show was Spencer Robson yet again, with a Tom Jones show.  Very good.

After dinner, another repeat production show “Piano Man”. This is probably musical director Sarah’s favourite.

Just for a change,  the clocks go forward 1 hour tonight and we are on land tomorrow, at an unscheduled port – Agios Nikolaos in Crete.  Few of our friends have been there before and as the tender drops us in town, we’ll just mooch around.
