Day 44 - Back at sea - bliss - almost.

An easy night  and at breakfast, possibly the first couple we have sat next to who had had enough.  “We only really wanted to see Egypt…” (Said in a Birmingham accent that hadn’t faded much, despite 40 years living in Australia.)  Sorry guys.  We all knew before we left that Egypt was doubtful, so if you really, really, want to see Egypt, then fly to Egypt!

As this was the last sea day before Venice, several daily programme items had be shuffled around, so you needed your wits about you to make sure you were in the right place at the right time.  For us, that meant trivia in the theatre, as there was another cooking demo in the Vista.  Sadly, I don’t think that dyslexic James should ever do trivia.  We didn’t win.

As always, Norm and Marion were down in the Atrium so coffee down there, chatting.  On leaving them, we sat down again with Dennis and Anthea and Mal and Megan.  No wonder we don’t have a problem with filling in the day.  Up to then, Paula was coping OK, just, but still coughing but as soon as we entered a cool section (deck seven, outside Magnums Bar and Jammer’s nightclub), it was much worse, so still not really well.

Back at the cabin, she didn’t feel at all good, so I made a trip or two to the shop and ended up paying about $21 for a small jar of Vicks – which seems to help – a bit.

We made the effort to go to dinner – all dressed in black, to celebrate the All Black’s win over Australia, and for a final farewell to Dennis and Anthea.  Another bombe Alaska parade and part of the ritual is singing along to “Waltzing Matilda”.  Fortunately for me (and the rest of the diners),  unlike Ros, Jo and Jude, the microphone held by Maitre d’, Guiseppe, never made it to my side of the table.

We were the very last out of the dining room…  Probably the latest we have ever been and for us, straight to the cabin at 10:15.

Early tomorrow is the Venice sail in, but the weather forecast is for rain and storms.  Isn’t that just typical?  Nine sea days on the trot without a cloud in the sky last week, but the most attractive sail in anywhere in the world and the forecast is for rain.  However, we have our own little family reunion to look forward to.  The $64,000 question is of course, how will Paula cope?
